Puppy Obedience Training Tips

A lot of people will wonder when is the best time to begin puppy obedience training.  Really the best time to begin training your puppy is straightaway.

So you now have a brand new puppy addition to the family.  He is so adorable, cute and cuddly and you love him to bits.  But just like any other member of the family, there are certain rules and behaviours that must be followed if life is to be enjoyable by all members of the family.

Of course he is still just a puppy and must be treated with great love and tenderness, so begin training your puppy with very simply things.  For instance if he gets over playful and starts to nip or bite, just say no very firmly and do not allow him to do this.  If he wees on the floor, put him outside or on newspaper and he will soon start to get the message.

Remember that puppies are just like children and have a very short attention span so do not attempt to get all regimental and make the poor puppy suffer from hours of constant training.  Just begin with 5 minutes lessons of simply things like sit and stay and lavish praise on him when he gets it right. Give your puppy lots of interesting toys to play with to keep him amused.  Play ball with him and try and get him to fetch the ball, puppies love to play this game.

Another thing to bear in mind when giving your puppy obedience training is that all breeds can be different to train.  For example some breeds of dog can be very stubborn and difficult to train, so be persistent and do not give up as you will find your patience and persistence will pay off in the long term.

Also remember that dogs are pack animals, so make sure he knows that you are the leader of the pack.

Always be very patient with your puppy and do not lose your temper and get angry with your puppy as this will only lead to a nervous timid dog. Never attempt to train your puppy when you are in a bad mood and are feeling impatient and never ever use physical abuse on your puppy. There really is no need or excuse to smack your puppy. Your puppy will understand what is right and wrong by the tone of your voice, so just be firm but kind.

Above all have fun with your puppy, life is to be enjoyed. Puppies are great pets to have around, they will love you unconditionally and become your best and faithful friend for life.

Dog training is a prerequisite for a canine to behave. Amongst the major concerns I have experienced until now is that dog types behave differently to some kinds of tactics.
